Imran Khan seeks meeting with govt dialogue committee before Jan 28: Salman Akram Raja

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja announced on Saturday that the party's founder had requested a meeting with the dialogue committee before January 28.

He stated that PTI has been actively involved in both legal and constitutional battles and remains steadfast in fighting for its political rights. Raja emphasized that the party would not waver from its demands.

Raja also quoted the PTI founder as saying the party would continue to advocate for the rights of missing persons and persist in its call for the formation of a judicial commission.

When asked about party leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Raja confirmed Junaid Akbar's appointment as the new president of PTI’s KP chapter, adding that a formal notification would be issued soon.

We Didn't Engage for Photo Sessions: Barrister Gohar

Earlier, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan criticized the government for its lack of seriousness regarding talks aimed at forming a commission to investigate the events of May 9 and November 26.

"The talks were initiated in good faith, not for pleasantries or photo opportunities," Gohar remarked.

He noted that a case concerning a protest outside the Supreme Court, which included terrorism clauses in the FIR, was under trial. Several lawyers implicated in the case were appearing in court, and the judge hinted at the potential dismissal of the case during the next hearing.

Despite facing injustices, including convictions against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, Gohar said the PTI participated in the dialogue process. However, he revealed that the government failed to respond to PTI's two primary demands within the agreed seven-day timeframe.

Gohar criticized the government for failing to finalize the commission’s terms of reference, timeline, and composition, labeling this inaction as proof of its lack of commitment.

"In light of this lack of seriousness, Imran Khan has decided to end the negotiations," he stated.

Gohar reiterated that PTI remains open to dialogue with all political parties and seeks constructive engagement. However, the government’s attitude has compelled the party to pause further discussions.
